Mitragyna speciosa, commonly known as Kratom, is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia from the Rubiaceae coffee plant family. The tree grows in humid tropical locations across Southeast Asia, such as Borneo, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Indonesia. It has been a staple in Southeast Asian cultures since the late 19th century, being used for generations as an herbal remedy to provide relief, promote energy, and improve mood and stress management. The two main alkaloids that are present in Kratom are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Kratom has become increasingly more popular now with those who are looking for organic herbs & botanicals as holistic alternatives. Simply put, the Kratom tree is popular with those around the world who want to live an all-natural lifestyle while enhancing their sense of wellness.
Before Kratom reaches our GMP compliant facility, it first starts its journey as a small plant grown in the tropical sunny forest of South East Asia. Using all the ingredients Mother Nature has given us, the Kratom plant can reach heights as high as 100 feet. Even though the tree can reach these incredible heights in the wild, most on farms will only grow to around 25 feet. During the trees life cycle, the vein of the leaves will begin changing colors at different points of maturity. These different colors are what we refer to as "strains". At the beginning of the tree’s life cycle, the veins are slightly white, but as the leaf matures, it begins to take on a greenish hue. Then when it reaches full maturity, the veins will produce a reddish color, indicating the tree is ready to shed its leaves. Besides representing the life cycle of the leaf, these colors also indicate a change in the concentration of the alkaloids. Once the leaf has shown its desired color, the leaves are then harvested and washed to remove all debris. After being washed, they are ready for the curing process where they dry under UV light. Once the curing process is complete, grinders are then used to turn the leaves into a fine powder, which is packaged and shipped to us in the United States. Once received, each lot is lab tested and coded so each spec of powder can be traced back to that little plant in the forest in which it first originated.
Kratom strains are typically made up of 3 different colors: red, white, and green. These colors represent the vein color of the Kratom leaf as it matures during its life cycle. This difference in color determines the effect the Kratom leaf will have on the body and mind due to the difference in alkaloids. Red vein is one of the most popular strains for users who are seeking relaxation, relief, and restful sleep. White vein is on the opposite end of the spectrum and is popular among those looking to increase productivity and focus, while creating an energizing, uplifting mood. Green vein is known as the middle ground and provides a mix of both red and white and popular among users who are looking to create a balance of calmness, and positivity. Now that you know what the colors stand for, what about the regions? Each strain is differentiated by its geographical location, such as Bali, Borneo, Malay, etc. There's also a few strains named after the unique leaf shape, such as, Elephant and Horn. So, which strain is the best? The Best Kratom Strain is often subjective and unique to the individual, and different Kratom strains can have different effects depending on the user. The best Kratom strain often depends on the individual's desired effects and what the person uses it for.
In the early 20th century, South East Asian natives would brew Kratom tea to enjoy throughout the day or simply chew on the leaf itself while working in the fields. Since then, we've come a long way. Along with taking Kratom powder in capsule form, users have figured out all sorts of creative ways to enjoy this wonderful plant. From mixing the powder with their favorite beverages, to making smoothies and even cooking with it, Kratom lends itself to versatility. Online you’ll find numerous recipes to draw inspiration from, but keep in mind, if you do decide to mix it with food, it’s not recommended to use Kratom when baking at high temperatures due to a slight loss in potency. Along with adding it to savory dishes and mixing it with chocolate, some users who don't mind the bitter taste decide to simply mix it with water. For those who do mind and are looking for a quick and convenient way to take Kratom, we also offer our delicious Kratom Shots, which are prefect when you're traveling or on the go. Our suggestion is try some of these different options and see what works best for you. Just as every user has different opinions on the best strain, every user has different opinions on the best way to use those strains. To learn more, read our 'How To Take Kratom Powder' full article.
Many factors come into play when it comes to finding the perfect serving size, such as different alkaloid profiles in each batch, tolerance level, brain chemistry, and even body type. That said, we do have a starting point. If you’re trying Kratom for the first time, it’s best to start with a low serving size, then gradually increase until you find your "Sweet Spot". When it comes to getting the most out of Kratom, "Less is always more". Once you find the desired effect you're looking for, it's best to always stay at that serving size. If you're using Kratom on a daily bases and find that you are starting to build a tolerance, consider taking a 2-3 day break, then start back at your original serving size. A lot of users will measure their Kratom powder in teaspoons, but due to the density of the powder being slightly different with each batch, this method becomes inaccurate, which is why we suggest using a scale. Now that you have more information, let's get you the answer to your question:
Suggested Serving Size:
Take one Teaspoon (2.4g) on an empty stomach. Do not exceed two servings in a 24 hour period.
Take one serving (4 capsules) on an empty stomach. Do not exceed two servings in a 24 hour period. Each capsule contains 600mg, which equals 2.4 grams.
Some claim Kratom has no expiration date, but that’s not entirely true. The easiest way to understand the Kratom expiration process is to compare it to another amazing herb, Tea. Like Kratom, as time goes by tea will start to lose some of the qualities that make it great. The taste will become less flavorful, it will lose its aroma, and you’ll notice a weaker cup in terms of caffeine. Just like tea, Kratom will start to lose its potency but, no matter how much time has gone by, if stored properly it will never be harmful to you. So, when does it start to lose its potency? Around 1-3 months and studies show if stored properly it will continue to hold its alkaloid profile for up to a year. Since it's all about the proper storage, let’s go over some of the best ways to store your Kratom powder. If kept in the original NuKine packaging and left unopened, your kratom will be safe from moisture and oxygen. Once opened and exposed to air, it’s best to transfer your Kratom powder to a labeled airtight container to minimize oxygen exposure, then store in a cool, dark, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Make sure to never freeze or refrigerate your Kratom, as this can introduce moisture and promote mold. If you follow this guide, you will take all the steps needed to preserve your Kratom for enjoyment and wellness all year long! To learn more, read our 'Does Kratom Expire' full article.
What if we said there was a way to use less Kratom and still get the same effects of a higher serving size? With Kratom potentiators you'll not only keep your tolerance lower, but you'll save money by making your Kratom powder last a little longer. But what exactly is a potentiator? A potentiator is an ingredient, or method, that makes a substance even more potent by increasing its effects. By taking Kratom potentiators you'll be able to take a lower serving size, while still enjoying the same benefits. The best Kratom potentiators include; Ashwagandha, turmeric, ginger root, apple cider vinegar, grapefruit (and other citrus juices), cats claw, watercress, caffeine, cayenne pepper, black seed oil, valerian root, lemon balm, and herbal teas such as chamomile. Keep in mind, any time you introduce a new supplement into your wellness regimen, it’s essential to do your own research. Even the most everyday Kratom potentiators may have unexpected effects, so it’s important to consult with your healthcare provider about your goals, pre-existing conditions, and any medications you may be taking before making any decisions. Without question the single most important thing when choosing the right Kratom vendor is third-party lab testing. If a vendor is not able, or willing, to provide you with a lab report from a reputable third-party lab, it's a huge red flag. But what is third-party testing exactly and what does it test for? In this case, third-party testing is when Kratom from a supplier in Indonesia is received and then sent to an accredited trusted lab in the United States. For example, we here at NuKine Wellness use Santé Laboratories to perform our testing. Santé is ISO 17025 accredited, which can be verified on the PJLA website. Once they receive our Kratom, they perform a series of tests for potency, pathogens, and heavy metals. The reason testing is so crucial is because it ensures our customer's safety, which is the most important thing to us. It's important to note that our products are tested before they ever reach our facility. This adds an extra layer of security making sure no mistakes are made. A moral and ethical vendor, like NuKine, will always be transparent, and that's why we test each lot and provide QR codes on all our products that link directly to the lot lab report. For information on our testing process, and to view the lab report to our latest batch, please visit our 'FAQ' section.
The Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA) is a bill designed to protect consumers in the Kratom industry by requiring vendors to adhere to safety guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Currently, the American Kratom Association (AKA) has already worked with state legislators to pass the KCPA in eight different states. This means the consumers in those states have an extra sense of security and comfort knowing they have the safest available Kratom products from any company in those states. So how does NuKine do its part to support the KCPA? We do it by providing high-quality safe Kratom. All our labeling is compliant with the KCPA rules and regulations and we also include the supplemental facts and serving size, mitragynine and 7-OH content, as well as, a QR code that takes you directly to the specific lab result for that lot. All of our Kratom is produced in a GMP compliant facility and none of our Kratom is adulterated. We use no synthetics or additional ingredients, just pure Mitragyna Speciosa leaf.
