Different Ways to Take Kratom Powder

What is Kratom Powder?

Mitragyna speciosa, better known as Kratom, is an evergreen plant in the coffee family that has been used worldwide, especially in Southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea. It's indigenous to Southeast Asia, where for centuries thousands of people have been using it as a natural remedy and enjoying its benefits.

In recent years, kratom has become increasingly popular among herbal supplement enthusiasts in the United States. It’s available in many forms, among which kratom powder is the most popular. Fresh leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa tree are dried and ground to make kratom powder, which can be consumed in several ways depending on the serving size, personal preference, and desired effects. Kratom users, especially beginners, may be confused about different ways to take kratom. If you’re new to taking kratom, you might find it challenging to figure out which method will work best for you. The good news is, we put together this blog article that will diffuse the confusion by discussing all the popular ways of taking kratom powder in detail.

Different Ways to Take Kratom Powder

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced Mitragyna user, you will always want to explore new ways of consuming kratom. Below, we have summarized a wide range of easy ways to take kratom powder and make your experience more enjoyable:

  • Kratom Capsules

If you want to mask the taste of kratom powder by 100% while consuming it, kratom capsules are a good option. If you’re a beginner and new to kratom, this is the method we recommend first. Our kratom capsules are prepared by encapsulating 0.6 grams of kratom powder in a gelatin capsule, that can be consumed easily. One of the biggest advantages of taking kratom powder in capsule form is the convenience factor. It becomes extremely difficult to mix kratom powder on the fly when on the go, and that's why we also recommend our kratom capsules if you plan on traveling. Kratom capsules are also popular with our customers who spend a lot of time at the gym, and prefer to store a bottle a NuKine kratom capsules in their locker.

If you’re interested in buying NuKine kratom powder and filling capsules yourself, you can find manual capsule filling trays online. The issue with filling your own kratom capsules with a manual filling tray, is it's an extremely messy and time consuming process. This is why almost all of our customers prefer to buy them from us prefilled. At NuKine Wellness, we fill our capsules with industrial capsule filling machines, that allow us to fill thousands of capsules in a short amount of time, with little to no clean up.

Regardless on if you plan on buying your capsules pre-filled, or filling them yourself, once your kratom capsules are in your hand, you can swallow them with water, juice or any beverage of your choosing. For information on suggested serving sizes and how many capsules to take, please visit the “Kratom Serving Size” section on our “Learn” page. If you already purchased NuKine Wellness capsules, you can simply refer to the labeling on the back of the bottle.

How about taking your kratom powder in the form of a smoothy? It sounds delicious, indeed! The most common feedback we get from our first time customers is how bitter kratom powder is when taken by itself. You can easily mask the bitterness by making kratom smoothies and mixing your kratom powder with fruit, yogurt, milk, or your favorite juice. Kratom smoothies are not only an excellent option to mask bitterness of kratom powder, it's also a more nutritious way of consuming it as well.

To make a delicious kratom smoothie, measure out the desired amount of kratom powder and blend it with your favorite ingredients, preferably with a liquid base (like milk or juice). You can also add more fruits like banana and strawberry to make the smoothie more flavorful. The combined taste of fruit and milk or juice will make the kratom smoothie a delicious and refreshing treat! There’s a lot that's great about making kratom smoothies, but the only downside is, because of the extra fruit ingredients, it's the most expensive way to consume kratom powder.

  • Kratom Tea

Kratom tea is another popular way to take kratom powder. In this method, you take a measured amount of kratom powder and add it to boiling water on the stove. After that, strain the liquid with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove any remaining powder. Your tea is ready! You can add a desired amount of sweetener, like honey or sugar, to mask the bitter taste of kratom. If you're concerned that boiling water will destroy the kratom alkaloids, don't be. This is simply a myth.

If you like a customizable way to take kratom powder, kratom tea is the best choice for you as you can customize its contents and preparation as per your taste. Some people like adding some ingredients to kratom tea to make it more suitable to their taste, such as ginger or lemon. These ingredients are used as flavor enhancers in the tea. • Mixed with Plain Water

Many experienced kratom users opt to simply measure out their desired kratom powder serving size and mix it in room temperature water. You might hear some people say, "kratom wont dissolve in water unless it's boiling or hot". This simply isn’t true. Though, it might take a few seconds more to dissolve in cold water, kratom powder will dissolve in any temperature water you mix it in. If the bitterness of the kratom powder in plain water is unpleasant for you, many users enjoy adding honey or sugar as sweeteners. Maple syrup and coconut oil are also some more delicious ingredients that can turn your plain kratom water into a mouthwatering treat.

  • Toss-And-Wash Method

This method is for the kratom user who doesn't prefer or have capsules, is looking for quickest option, and doesn't mind the bitter taste. As the name implies, the toss-and-wash method involves putting the measured amount of kratom powder into your mouth, then washing it down with water, juice, or any beverage of your choosing.

The toss-and-wash method is straightforward to follow; just measure out your desired kratom powder serving size, toss it into your mouth, then wash it down with water or juice.

You might read that toss-and-wash is the most common and preferred way to take kratom powder, but here at NuKine Wellness, it's our least favorite. We also don't recommend it for new users. Many beginner kratom enthusiasts don't like the toss-and-wash method because when the kratom powder touches their throat, it can trigger coughing. If you choose this method and you experience this, we suggest dividing your serving size into multiple portions.

  • Mixing Kratom Powder With Food

Kratom powder is easy to mix into your daily meals. Also, mixing kratom powder into foods is one of the best choices to mask its bitter taste. Some users believe kratom powder loses its potency after mixing it into cooked or baked food, however, this belief is contrary to reality. The powder's potency and integrity in fact do remain intact during and after mixing. The loss in potency issue only arises when you cook or bake the powder with the food at extremely high temperatures.

When it comes to choosing the food in which you want to mix with kratom powder, the following are some great options:

  • Applesauce
  • Yogurt
  • Oatmeal
  • Pudding

Another important thing that you need to consider is the kratom-to-food ratio. You will need to do some experiments to get the best kratom-to-food ratio. For that, mix different serving sizes of kratom powder in the same amount of food and choose the best one that suits your taste. It's important to keep in mind that the method of mixing kratom powder in foods requires patience and careful attention to work best for you. If you look online, you’ll find numerous kratom recipes to draw inspiration from.

  • Kratom Tincture

A kratom tincture is made by soaking kratom powder in a solvent, like alcohol or vinegar. The solvent extracts the alkaloids and compounds from the powder to make a concentrated liquid extract called a tincture.

Kratom tincture is a relatively less common way of consuming kratom powder as compared to the above mentioned methods. However, it's believed to be one of the consumption methods that allows the users to get maximum alkaloids and contents of the kratom powder into their bodies. For this reason, we do not recommend this method to any new users.

Using a kratom tincture is straightforward, as you'll only have to place a few drops of the extract under your tongue to get your desired dosage. You can also mix the tincture into your favorite beverage to mask the powder's bitter taste.

You can prepare kratom tincture in your home by taking a desired amount of kratom powder and mixing it with alcohol or vinegar. The mixture should be stored in a dark, cool place for several weeks to allow the completion of the extraction process. However, it’s a lengthy and time-consuming process, so it’s advised to buy ready-made kratom tinctures from the market. We do not recommend our customers try to make tinctures themselves.

Final Thoughts

All these methods are easy to follow. However, the method that can work best for you depends on your serving size requirements, personal preferences, and more importantly, usage level. It's also important to try the method you choose on a trial basis to find out if it properly works for you. It it’s not suitable to your taste and preference, consider trying the other methods.
